About Kindred

How Kindred started

With a free English class in 2011. Here’s the rest of the story, what we believe and who leads us.

Our story

It started with an English class

In 2011, Joseph and a few friends started a free English conversation class in the basement of an old church on Union Avenue. Students brought friends, friends brought food, and within a year the class was reading the Bible together in five languages.

We became a church in 2013. The English classes still run on Tuesday and Thursday nights, and a few of our first students now teach them.

What we believe

What we believe

01

Every nation

God’s family has always been bigger than one culture. Revelation 7 says so.

02

Jesus

He made room for outsiders, and he died and rose to bring us home.

03

The Bible

We read it together, and it has the final word, in every language.

04

Justice

We look out for our neighbours, especially people who are new to the country.

05

The table

Shared meals are where a lot of our church life happens.

Our team

Who leads us

Joseph has led Kindred since the English class. The rest of the pastors come from four different countries.
